According to the IUCN Red List of Endangered species this species is harvested for aquarium species classified as least concern. This species has some unique attributes which include lays its approximately 1000 eggs into a bubble nest like most anabantoids. Microctenopoma fasciolatum is native to Zaire, occurring in the lower and central parts of the Congo River and can reach nearly four inches in length.
