Mbuna is a common name representing a large colorful group of African cichlids from Lake Malawi. The term mbuna translates to mean “rockfish” in the language used by the Tonga people of Malawi Africa, a term which is used in the cichlid community as well. Many of the mbuna cichlids thrive along the piles of rocks and along the rocky shores of
Lake Malawi.
These cichlids are some of the most beautifully colored tropical fish paired with unique and distinction body shapes. Many species of mbuna prefer or require herbivore based diets and
