Benitochromis species list of available cichlids from Cameroon
Benitochromis is the name of genus of African cichlids from riverine and lake habitats in Middle Africa (Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, including the island of Bioko. This is a rather small genus of cichlids which include B. batesii, B. conjunctus, B. finleyi, B. nigrodorsalis, B. riomuniensis, and B. ufermanni. Several of these species were originally assigned to the genus Chromidotilapia. Sadly this small group of Cameroon cichlids is all threatened in the wild. Each species is listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List of Endangered species expect for Benitochromis batesii which is marked as Vulnerable. Considering keeping and breeding any of these species so them remain in the hobby for future generations of cichlid hobbyists to enjoy.
