This
archer fish that lives exclusively in freshwater
originates from Burma. It has been discovered as early as 1860 and received its correct scientific name in 1892. Since then it has not been found anymore. Only in 2004 the first specimens appeared in the international trade and were celebrated as a sensation. These first specimens were extremely expensive, but nowadays the price is on a normal level and so any real fish enthusiast is able to keep this beautiful fish at home. Currently we received a shipment with really nice specimens of this extraordinary archer fish.
The animals of our current importation have a very uniform pattern; this is quite different to the specimens observed in former importations. We add a picture of a specimen imported in 2011 as an example. Possibly the fish in our current import represent even a species new to science, for there are a lot of hints that the real diversity and species-richness in archer fish is not understood yet. Currently only 7 species are recognized in the
genus Toxotes.
